📋 Enrollment & Registration

What is the minimum age requirement?

We accept students from age 4 and above.


Can we try before enrolling?

Yes! We offer a 10-minute trial session by appointment only. Contact us to schedule.


When does the school year run?

September to June, divided into three semesters: (1) September-December, (2) January-March, (3) April-June.


💳 Fees & Payment


What are the tuition fees?

$80 per month includes 3 hours of instruction monthly ( classes are held 30-45 minutes weekly)


How do I pay?Fees are paid semester-based in advance by: (1) Interac e-Transfer to legatostrings.ca@gmail.com, or (2) Credit card via our payment link.

Are there additional costs?

Only the $50 enrollment fee(one time), that covers first year books,sheet musics and folder.

Where are classes held?


Ajax: Thursdays | Scarborough: Saturdays. Contact us for specific addresses.

(Students attend one class weekly)


What is the class cancellation policy? Students must notify us 12 hours in advance to receive a makeup session. Last-hour cancellations don't qualify for makeups.



🎻 Programs & Instruction

What teaching method do you use?

We use an specially curated teaching method, emphasizing ear training, proper technique, and fun based positive reinforcement.


What instruments do you teach?

Violin for all ages and Piano lessons (Basic to Intermediate)


Do you prepare students for RCM exams?

Yes! We provide RCM exam preparation covering repertoire, technique, theory, and ear training.


Do you rent violins?

Yes! $100 per year (September-June) plus $100 refundable deposit. (Damage costs deducted from deposit.)


Do you rent Keyboards and Pianos?

No, We don't.


My child has never played before - is that okay? Perfect! We welcome complete beginners. The Legato  method is highly effective for students with no prior experience.


Will my child perform in concerts?Yes! Performance opportunities include our annual Christmas Concert and seasonal performances.


🎵 Adult & Hobby Learners

Do you accept adult students?


Absolutely! We welcome adults and hobby learners of all ages. Whether you're fulfilling a lifelong dream or returning to violin after years away, our program accommodates adult learners alongside younger students.


Can I learn at my own pace as a hobby player?


Yes! We understand hobby learners have different goals than professional-track students. You can progress at your own comfortable pace - there's no pressure to advance quickly or take exams. Many adults simply enjoy the pleasure of making music and being part of an ensemble.


Great Performance & Rehearsal oppurtunity ! What is Legato Strings Orchestra (LSO)?

Legato Strings Orchestra is a Durham-based beginner orchestra officially launched in 2025 at St. Francis Centre. Backed by the highly regarded Music4Life Strings Orchestra, LSO provides students with an exceptional opportunity to experience ensemble playing. The program is designed for students who can read staff notation and have completed several months of practice. Each season follows a structured timeline: repertoire is assigned in June, rehearsals run from September through December, and the season concludes with a performance in December. Separate fees apply for LSO participation - please contact us for enrollment details.


Are the class times flexible for working adults?


Our classes run on Thursday evenings (Ajax) and Saturday sessions (Scarborough), which works well for many working professionals. Contact us to discuss which schedule fits your availability best.

How much practice is expected?

Daily practice is essential. Start with 15-20 minutes for young beginners, increasing gradually. Consistency matters most.

How is student progress assessed?
Students are evaluated on five key areas: (1) Lesson attendance, (2) Daily practice log maintenance, (3) Skill progression, (4) Initiative, and (5) Punctuality & responsibility. Students achieving 90% or above in their yearly average receive honors recognition at our annual award ceremony. All students receive a completion certificate yearly, celebrating their musical journey and dedication.
